Eye trauma as well as being visually disabling can also affect the appearance of the eye.In this case a corneal transplant has previously been performed to improve vision, but due to the absent iris which has been damaged by the original trauma, there is significant glare.
The natural iris is a muscle which regulates the amount of light entering the eye, by varying the size of the opening (the pupil). Unfortunately a working iris that both constricts and dilates the pupil is not available but a hand painted silicone iris designed to match the aesthetic appearance of the unaffected iris can be produced bespoke.
The pictures show the appearance of an eye pre operatively with no iris evident. The second picture shows an artificial iris with much better appearance.
